Introduction

The goal of the Hearts War is to get as few hearts as possible. Each heart gives you a penalty point. There is also a special card, the Queen of Spades. Deduct 13 points from you! This is a game where you want lower scores rather than high scores.

Gameplay

First, each player will receive 13 cards. When the game begins and is passed to one of your opponents, you will choose three cards. Usually, it's best to give away your three worst cards and try to get rid of them. You pass the ball to different opponents (we'll handle this part for you), and you first pass the ball to the opponent on your left. Then, on the following play, you pass the ball to the opponent on your right. In the third game, you go straight across the table, and in the fourth game, you keep your cards and don't pass any cards around. The player who starts with the 2 of clubs leads on the first hand, and that player must lead with the 2 of clubs.

At the beginning of each round, one player puts down a card, which is called a "lead." The suit of the card determines the suit of the trick. Then each player plays a card. If they have a card of the same suit as the first card, they must play the card of that suit. If not, they can play any other card. Once 4 cards have been played, the player with the highest card wins. This means he or she takes 4 cards from the table and starts the next turn. Any penalty cards in the trick (any Hearts or Queen of Spades) are added to the player's penalty points. You cannot lead a trick with a heart until another suit has played a heart (aka "break"). If it is your turn to be ahead and no hearts have been played so far, you cannot select hearts as the card to be played. In some versions of the Hearts game you cannot play the Queen of Spades unless the hearts are broken, but in this version you can always play the Queen of Spades without having the hearts broken.

In the first round, you cannot play the Queen of Hearts or the Queen of Spades, even if you do not have any cards in the starting suit. After all cards have been played, penalty points are calculated and the player with the fewest points wins the hand. The game ends when one of the players reaches at least 100 points, and the player with the fewest points wins. If the score exceeds 100 and there are 2 or more identical scores with the lowest score, the game continues until there is only one clear winner.

Usually, getting a penalty card is not a good thing, but in some cases, it can benefit you greatly. If you get all the penalty cards (thirteen hearts and the queen of spades), you get 0 points and all other players get 26 points each. It can be a bit of a risky move to try this, as you'll end up with a lot of points if the other player only gets one heart. Okay, now that we have that down, let??s play some Hearts!
